FALL spiritual spas
Spiritual Spas will hold space for deep listening and lament, creativity and play, building altars, and telling stories. The hope is that you will leave the "spa" feeling refreshed, nourished, and connected. Each week, we’ll engage a different spiritual practice together.
(The concept of Spiritual Spas is inspired by the amazing Sandhya Jha)
Pentecost 2024
“The book of Acts is like the book of Genesis. It announces the beginning but without the language of beginning. Like Genesis, it renders without pomp and flag-waving a God working, moving, creating the dawn that will break each day, putting into place a holy repetition that speaks of the willingness of God to invade our every day and our every moment." - Willie James Jennings, Acts: A Theological Commentary on the Bible
We will gather for worship on Zoom, Sundays - May 19th - June 23rd - at 4pm PST. In addition to the worship service, there will be a time of Listening for the Spirit together through a weekly prayer gathering and monthly Healing Circles.
LENT 2023
Lent begins in the wilderness. The Spirit guides Jesus into the wilderness, where he comes face to face with temptation and struggle. Yet, in his forty days of fasting, resisting, and wandering, Jesus is shaped and formed for ministry. Similarly, through the wilderness of Lent, we are invited to surrender to the wild leadings of the Spirit. We rarely enter the wilderness willingly, but hopefully, through our wandering, we remember who we are and whose we are. The wilderness can become sacred even if it remains dangerous. There is no wilderness space too harsh or threatening for God’s love. This Lent, we welcome you to the journey. Our Lenten Series draws from the resources of Sanctified Art.
We will gather for worship on Zoom, Sundays - February 18th - March 24th - at 4pm PST. During Lent, we will also gather for a time of weekly prayer on Wednesdays, February 14th - March 20th, 5:30-6pm PST (Zoom)
ADvent 2023
We carry our ancestors' joys and heartache, strength and weakness, wisdom and questions in our bones. So did Jesus. During Advent, we’ll gather to reflect on the mothers, grandmothers, foremothers, and other mothers who shaped Jesus’ life and ministry. This series is an invitation to reflect on God’s work of communal liberation through bodies, wombs, spirits, and minds. Join us to be inspired by the faith, resilience, and wisdom of the incredible women in Jesus' (and our) lineage.
With our ancestors and descendants holding space in our souls, we will never be alone in the work of healing, wholeness, and flourishing.
We will gather on Zoom Sundays - November 12th - December 17th - at 4pm PST
Summer connections
Healing Circle - Saturday, July 22nd 10 am-12 pm PST (zoom)
As Miriam Song continues to grow and be a nurturing space, we want to provide a space for stories to be told, to bare witness, to affirm, to be heard, to be seen, and to be in solidarity with one another. Jeanne Sumiko has generously offered to host a Healing Circle adapted from an organization called Tsuru for Solidarity. There are 10 spots available for this gathering.
Summer Book Club - August 6,13,20,27 @ 5pm (zoom)
We'll work our way through Our Unforming: De-Westernizing Spiritual Formation by Cindy Lee. Even if you don't have time to read, everyone is welcome to join for a time of reflection and connection.
PENTECOST SERIES
Moses encountered God through a burning bush that was not consumed. The Israelites followed a pillar of fire to their liberation. The disciples found a new voice when tongues of fire interrupted their grief. At Pentecost, we celebrate the transcendent breaking into the ordinary, just as it did when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles in the book of Acts. When the Holy Spirit shows up, we are initiated — sometimes shocked — into sacred empowerment. Join us for a three-week exploration of receiving the holy presence in our everyday reality and celebrating the spiritual renewal that comes as a divine gift.
We will gather on zoom Sundays - 5/28, 6/4, and 6/11 - at 5pm PST
ASH WEDNESDAY & LENT SERIES
The Bible is for all people, but too often, it's been interpreted as "by men, for men." God's Word is full of the stories, lessons, and wisdom of women. God does not desire women to be silent. God speaks through and listens to, the voices of women. As women of color, we know that for every voice lifted up, dozens of others have been silenced. We feel the weight of speaking on "behalf of" while ignoring the cries of our own hearts. Together, we will receive the wisdom our of spiritual foremothers, lift up our own voices, and bear witness to the stories of our sisters.
Advent Series - 2022
From the creation story in Genesis to the birth of Jesus, God’s creativity is constantly reshaping the world. Women of color have a unique perspective on what it means to birth, nurture, receive, and support new life in the face of chaos, fear, uncertainty, and oppression. Together, we will honor the strength of our foremothers and recognize the holy creativity in each of us.
Advent is the season when Jesus-followers around the world enter a reflective period of waiting, offering ourselves as a welcoming space for the divine presence and receiving the surprising gifts that God hides in unexpected places in our lives. Whatever your faith background is (or isn’t), we invite you to join us to ponder, treasure, and welcome the birth of the new thing God is doing through Jesus - in the world and in our own lives.
